👏🏾This post affirms my reading-writing practice. While journaling, I realized the thing that held me back from consistency is this (false) idea drilled into me over the years: “all that reading and writing has no tangible results in the real world… you’re book smart, but no street smarts.” But it’s because of reading that I’ve been able to change my financial situation, do three career pivots without any formal degrees, and heal from years of low self-esteem and trauma. A small reading list for girls like me: the “fairy god girls” passage in Vagabonds! (Eloghosa Osunde); We Should All Be Feminists (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie); Belonging (bell hooks).

Nia thank you so much for sharing! Your words highlight the beautiful synergy between reading and re-direction. Reading opens doors, and journaling helps us process what we learn. Your reading list sounds fantastic and I've added all to my TBR!
